It's been an almost heretofore unimaginable month since the WHO declared Covid-19 pandemic. So much has come to a standstill that it is useful to have a reminder that somethings, many things, plod on.
And so, today's poem is from musician and spoken word performer, PE Islander Tanya Davis' book At First, Lonely published in 2011 by The Acorn Press. Enjoy!
Clocks and Hearts Keep Going
clocks and hearts keep going
even though we love, even though we hurt, even though we lose
love
or worse
even though we are altogether lost, even if upon our walls
may hang no clocks
even if we think time has stopped
or we are all caught up, lurching forward years in one moment
or if we are dwelling and holding
clocks and hearts keep going
rolling, turning over in cycles and circles
even if we hide in basements thinking life's not working
while we're shrugging and shirking off
occasions to make it worth it
while our ribcages protect our organs
here, now
hearts make blood go forward and around
clocks turn as hearts pound.
Be well,
Jill
