Today I am posting links to three webinars I have enjoyed over the past while.
The first is a link to a webinar YES! Magazine hosted regarding the movement towards a more ecological civilization. It was a planned watch with my youngest child and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend this for the inspiration we all need as we create a better tomorrow. I also recommend this as an antidote to all the news stories telling us we can expect a rerun of the roaring 1920's, post-pandemic (the economic charge up so many unimaginative capitalists are hoping for--we can do better). The webinar is like a heartmap towards a more just and sustainable and I would argue, more beautiful way of being in this world.
From the notes sent with the event recording:
Thank you so much to everyone who tuned in for YES! Presents ‘An Ecological Civilization: The Path We’re On” with Winona LaDuke, Leah Penniman, Jeremy Lent, Zenobia Jeffries Warfield, and Andrew Schwartz. We were sorry Vandana Shiva was unable to join at the last minute, and are talking to her about the possibility of rescheduling—we'll keep you posted! Nonetheless, it was an insightful and inspiring conversation attended by more than 2,600 people!
The second link is to a webinar of the 2020 Danny O'Hanley Memorial Lecture, an annual lecture hosted by LAMP in honour of my grand uncle Dan O'Hanley. I have attended these in person almost every year for most of the lectures since its inception following my grand uncle's murder in Nicaragua in 1991. This year's lecture was exceptionally good and I highly recommend you taking the time to learn about Indigenous fisheries and the concept of Etuaptmumk or two-eyed seeing presented. The lecture could serve as a primer on Indigenous rights with a special focus on the right to fish. Two highly articulate and very knowledgeable PE Islanders now living on the west coast, Dr. Andrea Reid and John Francis Lane, were the guest presenters of the lecture along with an important response from Mi'kmaq elder Judy Clark.
And the third, below, is a link my friend Judy pointed me towards for a poetry session from some top notch American poets. It was worth snuggling up with just to know there are others out there bearing such honest witness to life. As well, it never hurts to gain a new poet or two whose words you can keep close to your heart. It is called Stubborn Praise hosted by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and James Crews with special guest Ellen Bass. Delightful!
Hope that you find something here to educate/entertain you.
Wishing you wellness this glorious late winter day!
Jill
