a poem for the times

remember that you

(insert your name here)

are valued though your life is but a silhouette of bare limb hardwoods at dusk

beautiful and ungraspable both

fleeting as that one

breathtaking sunset

you saw

yet strangely still tethered to hope and disillusionment

in equal measure

remember in these darkest of days

reach skyward to drink light

allow yourself a return to the place where true connections are held

immeasurable like groundwater

and just as life giving

Light may be dwindling but there is still time

and You (insert your name here)

are perfectly unable to be anywhere else

but here

sit with it

breathe with it

for now is

ephemeral as

woodland snowshoe hares who've claimed their winter white too soon

and all the while

the snow that is meant to bring refuge is

missing still

and panicked

you

(insert your name here)

are

feeling harsh and biting as the north wind

half eaten by the coyote teeth of this pandemic

and

living in a forest racing towards the dark and rising sea

Pause

remember

(insert your name here)

while reading this,

our transient beating hearts are

like tree roots

holding hands

You are not alone in this

Thanks for reading!

Wishing you a sense of your deep connection with all that is and ever was...

Be well,

Jill
